Lately, I’ve been seeing a recurring message on social media: “Be the main character of your story.” It’s everywhere—echoing the sentiments of past trends like “know your truth” and “be true to yourself.”
At first glance, it sounds empowering. But the more I hear it, the more I notice the undertone behind the message: resentment, anger, and deep hurt. And that’s where I believe this mindset falls short.
Who Should Really Be the Main Character?
The truth is, we weren’t made to be the center of our own universe. When we put ourselves on the throne of our lives, we may find momentary confidence—but not lasting peace. That only comes when we place the true Creator—the One who made us and the universe—as the main character in our story.
When God becomes the center, our perspective shifts. We begin to experience compassion, forgiveness, kindness, hope, and peace—not just for ourselves, but toward others. It changes everything.
Is the Algorithm Feeding Us Lies?
I’m not sure if social media algorithms are testing me lately or if this trend is becoming more widespread. Either way, I’m thankful for tools that let me stay “online” while still guarding my heart (sorry, not sorry).
There’s something deeply unsettling about how influencer culture has evolved. While I do believe social media can offer community, creativity, and purpose, the darker side is growing louder and harder to ignore.
A Shift in Spiritual Discernment
It feels like the veil has been lifted. I’m seeing the tactics of the enemy for what they truly are—not the sugar-coated versions I used to fall for. And that realization can be unnerving.
Some influencers seem completely detached from reality, caught up in a cycle of self-worship and curated personas. Others still hold on, keeping strong boundaries and staying grounded. But watching it all unfold is making me rethink my own purpose in this space.
A Heart Check for Content Creators
I’ve always wanted to show up online as a big sister figure—someone who uplifts, encourages, and helps others through hard seasons. But now I find myself questioning if this digital path leads to connection or isolation… or worse, a slow fade into something unrecognizable.
Maybe you’ve felt it too.
My Motto: Watch Everything, Absorb Nothing
So, I’m holding onto a motto that keeps my heart anchored:
“Watch everything. Absorb nothing.”
I’ll remain aware of what’s happening, but I won’t let it take root in my spirit. My focus stays fixed on the greater good—the Kingdom above.
Final Thoughts
If you’re feeling the tension between digital influence and spiritual truth, you’re not alone. The world is loud, but discernment, faith, and grounded purpose can guide us through the noise.
Stay alert. Stay anchored. And remember who the true main character is.
